  • About Mae

Mae Lu is a Canada-born, So-Cal-raised Asian American 30 Something, living a dream with her hubby & dog in the magical kingdom of Hawaii.

This red-lipstick aficionado designs websites for a living and runs a fledgling lifestyle YouTube Channel in her spare time. On the weekends, if she's not filming, you can find her behind the lens of her Sony A6000, shooting scenery in Hawaii, hiking the hills and ridges of her beloved island home, or chasing the perfect sunset.

Why "thereafterish."? Because "and they lived happily ever thereafter" is just half of every story, and this is mine.

AOAO: Red High Waisted Trousers for Petites
September 21, 2011

There is something so perfect about red pants. Even better than red pants are high-waisted wide leg trousers. So red high-waisted wide leg trousers are just about the most awesome thing in my closet, bottoms-wise, for the fall season.

See how Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon pulls this piece off:

And this is how I tried the trend with petite sized wide leg trousers (I have to get them altered to let the cuffs out so I can wear these with heels and not look stumpy). The high waist, though, really helps elongate the leg. If the actual inseam were a bit longer (sans cuffs), my legs would look a lot longer, because the line starts from my natural waist-line. MAGIC. This is why high-waisted styles are so essential and beneficial for petites. It gives the illusion of a higher waist, longer leg than is really there. The added benefit for EVERYONE is that you’re dressing the tiniest part of your body, which Clinton and Stacey of What Not to Wear would advise EVERYONE, EVER.

I paired it with a cornflower blue silk top, but you can really wear almost anything with these as long as the waist is defined. So if you’re going for volume, you need to tuck it in.

Nude heels make the legs look longer, but to enhance the illusion, you could go with red shoes, too. It’s up to you.
