AOAO: Impressions of Marilyn in LOST

A draped convertible dress with a hooded secret. A Marilyn-worthy hair cut (maybe). An eco-friendly perfect red lipstick in a wallet-friendly sticker price. Douchbaguette posing in the land of LOST.

Aloha kakahiaka kakou! ~ Good morning, y’all!

Hawaii Street Style, Emami Limitless Dress, Convertible Dress

Since I’ve downsized my wardrobe considerably pending our trans-Pacific move, and since we lived out of suitcases for the better part of two months until fully settled in Hawaii, I learned how to utilize the pieces we’d packed into our duffle bags. The convertible Emami Limitless Dress was definitely the hero of my suitcase wardrobe, with its over 40 different ways to wear. I’m sure you’ve seen a fair share of this dress over the months since I bought it in Iceland in 2010–seen here in Aphrodite single shoulder mode, halter tent style, maxi skirt and criss-cross draped halter styles, and draped, belted tent halter style.

[Don't mind all the bruises and scars from all the Hawaii hiking and mosquito bites on my legs...]

Hawaii Street Style, Emami Limitless Dress, Convertible Dress

Worn as a cowl neck halter mini dress, you add a sense of sensuality and allurement without revealing much skin at all. It’s the lines of the dress that do all the work. They add curvature to the hips, accentuate the bust (if you, like me, have a bigger chest), and all-round sexiness to the back.

And, as an unexpected, edgy detail, you can pull the cowl over your head as a hood. It takes the ensemble from Marilyn lady-like to street smart, sassy diva, with the simple flick of a hood.

Petite Style Notes:
Because this dress mode places strong emphasis on the natural waist line, and the cowl draping further emphasizes the center line, this is a great style that elongates the body, creating a long, lean look. Pair with open sandals or pumps instead of cage heels as I did here to further lengthen your legs.

Make it pop!
Top the look brilliant with the perfect moisturizing red lipstick that’s both eco and budget friendly: Nuance by Salma Hayek Color Vibrance Lipstick in Paprika (10USD at Longs or CVS drugstores USA).

AOAO: Douchebaguette in Maui and Road to Hana

Exquisite brie, apple and avocado crepes at Café des Amis. A car-sickness inducing, harrowing ride on the stunning road to Hana. An afternoon shopping and posing like a douche next to Hawaii street art in hippie hotspot town, Pa’ia, Maui. All aspects of a perfect weekend in gorgeous, sunny Maui.

Aloha kakahiaka kakou! ~ Good morning, guys!

Husby and I heard about the TEDx Maui event and decided it was the perfect opportunity to visit our neighbor island in paradise. (It would also afford me the chance to finally meet my blogger BFF Sharon–which you can read about in last Friday’s article, “Hawaii Fashion Bloggers Unite!“)

Friday, after a thirty minute flight, we landed in Kahului and scouted for vegan/vegetarian-friendly joints in the hippie hotspot, Pa’ia town. After that, we took the most harrowing, hair-pin-y road winding through rain forested cliffs at the foot of which crashed brilliant azure waves, stopping every now and then to hike through jungles, clamber over rocks, wade through ice cold pools to take photos of waterfalls, burned out cars and the raging, frothy, aquamarine vastness.

Great day. Too bad I looked like a douchebaguette princess in a high-maintenance single-shoulder drape dress, those leopard wedges and a straw fedora (which my friend Phi-Style advises against wearing: “Never wear fedora“–well cr*p, this is my first one). Oh well. It looked good for airport style. The haole tourist wearing ugly shoes in the boarding line in front of us said I looked like a goddess, so um, I guess it’s all good, yeah? :)

AOAO – Emami Peculiar Piece // And the Chick’s For Free…Not

While we were in Little Italy in Toronto, we stopped to take some flix of graffiti on a legal wall. I matched the mural well in my Emami Peculiar Piece convertible dress.

{ Architecture of an Outfit } Smart packing, convertible dress

When we were in Las Vegas last week, being there for only three days, I made sure to pack my Limitless Dress by Emami, knowing that I needed a good array of outfits.

Getting away for a few moments by ourselves, we went out to dinner one night, and Nate surprised me the next day with tickets to Mystere by Cirque du Soleil. Having only one “night out” outfit, I made do with the Limitless Dress by Emami. Considering it’s a convertible dress that can be worn 30-40 ways, I think I was covered. The smartest thing I can do is wear a convertible dress from Iceland.

Here are the two ways I wore it.

To dinner. Bat wing sweater, front, back.

For the long skirt, the tube top comes down to the waist, the cape portion of the dress comes up from behind and ties around the waist. How to video 1 here. Video 2 here.

Version 2, a bit dressier for Cirque du Soleil… I didn’t realize my chest size makes the dress a bit sluttier than it is on the model in the instructional video. Oops.

Outfit Architectures: Emami Limitless Dress, Emami Bow Leggings, Norma Kamali bat wing sweater, Target knee highs, River Island cage heels, Causeway Mall bib necklace, Merona men style gold watch, Wendy Mink hammered gold vermeil cuff, Sole Sisters infinity earrings, Alex & Ani recycled spike bangles via Charlie & Lee.

Might’ve been hotter if I didn’t wear the cross-back bra, but I needed support for The Girls. Didn’t know I had these, did you? I told you I hide them.

Worn with my River Island cage heels and Emami Bow Leggings.

The dress is genius, because you can eat as much as you want and it’ll hide even the most onerous muffin top. Seriously. I wore it as a harem pant and a tent dress as well during the trip. 1 dress. 40 ways. Smart packing. I tell you.

SUH-MART.

{ Architecture of an Outfit } Icelandic Fashion Part 2: Emami’s The Peculiar Piece

Yet another piece that I love and have worn about 6 times and four different ways since I bought it in Iceland.

What it is:
A mini dress, a cape (I hate saying “poncho”), a hoodie, a pencil skirt sun dress, a frock. There are over 16 ways to wear this piece, and probably more, but I’m not good with thinking out of the box, being such a newbie to convertible clothes. Constructed from the finest organic cotton, this piece is designed for maximum wear, and will not pill or fray–which, as a result, means this dress is greener not only because of its material and its many forms, but because this piece lasts much, much longer than the average piece of clothing.

How I wore it:

To view other ways to wear it, or to purchase one of your very own:
Visit Emami’s website, www.emami.dk. Prices are in Euro, but you can use XE Universal Currency Converter to approximate costs in all currencies. Emami ships worldwide free.
