Weekend in Pictures (Instagram/Hipstamatic)

We were in Traverse City, Michigan for a wedding this last weekend. In a way, this was a bittersweet farewell to one of my favorite things about the Mitten State, Color Season in the northwest near the tropical-like-blue of Grand Traverse Bay. The food, the trees, the water, the quaint, tiny-ness of it all. I will definitely miss this place dearly. Who knows when we’ll be back here again?

In no particular order from above:

  • Road Tripping in our mini Cooper
  • Quick stop in Frankenmuth, MI–Michigan’s little Bavaria, surprised to find vegan and vegetarian-friendly fare there.
  • Our gorgeous bathroom at The Carriage House, our vacation rental condo in the coolest red barn ever.
  • dinner at Amical, where we killed the bread.
  • State Theatre in Traverse City
  • Hanging out in TC.
  • Wine
  • Grand Traverse Bay
  • Outfit Shots
  • Max trying out his TSA Approved flight kennel
  • Booking tickets one way for our move to Hawaii
  • Wedding at the Willowbrook Mill in Northport, MI
  • Drunk late night snack of vegan friendly Ramen (Sapporo Ichiban brand)
  • Exploring Elk Rapids, MI
  • Husby instagramming and hipstmatic-ing like mad

And that was my weekend in a nutshell.

When we got back home on Sunday, I promptly had a lupus attack from the roadtrip (sitting for long periods tends to do that to me) and I was flat on my back with ice and really strong Ibuprofen all day yesterday. Fun.

How was your weekend???

Weekend in Pictures (Instagram)

It’s been one heck of a weekend, in the best possible way. My tumblr and Instagram feed say so. I spent a LOT of time running through Detroit Rock City and Ann Arbor, MI:

  • Epic Vegetarian dinner of Smoked Gouda Tots, Bruschetta Caprese, and Yam Frites at Seva in Ann Arbor.
  • Bowling at the Garden Bowl.
  • Waiting in line in the mid-morning freeze in Ferndale to buy tickets for Theatre Bizarre with Mandy.
  • Spending a ton of cash I shouldn’t have while finding the most amazing vintage belts and awesome shoes I’ve been scoping for 3 years at the Ferndale, MI DIY Street Fair (think Etsy in real life).
  • Snagging the awesome and snarky illustrations by Kill Taupe at the Rust Belt Market.
  • Grocery shopping with my girls SillyGrrl and GingerMandy, getting all domestic and cooking Vegan, Vegetarian Chili together.
  • Shopping for the components for the perfect The White Rabbit Costume for Theatre Bizarre until 5AM.
  • Waking up at 2PM on Sunday and watching gross food documentaries.

Told you this weekend was Epic. Any time I get together with the B3 Girls, or we do anything related to Theatre Bizarre, hang out in Ferndale, eat, things tend to go the way of being epic.

Travel Diary: Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Transit (Day 1)

Halifax Travel, Halifax Airport, Travel Canada, Nova Scotia Travel

Travel to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada Day 1 Photo Diary. (Picture heavy post.)

I tried to do One Photo Every Hour for that day, but I hate fiddling with my camera a bunch when I have to take multiple plane rides and family is involved. I don’t want them thinking I’m more vain and weirder than they already must think I am–blogging and understanding blogging involves a different sort of mentality. Esp if you’re blogging about yourself and your style. Continue reading

My Weekend in Instagram

Thanks to Instagram, Picture Show and Camera Samp apps on my beloved white iPhone 4, I was able to document my weekend pretty well compared to most weekends. I spent time lounging about the house, watching movies, eating a LOT of fresh, healthy food, watching Kdramas, cooking, running errands and hanging out at the coffee shop while working on website stuff. Pretty awesome weekend. Still not enough sleep or coffee to tackle what I face today in the office, though.

No proper time to document an outfit, or post a regular outfit pic, so I’ll just leave you with Instagram.

And on a sidenote, though I didn’t take a picture of him, it was nice to meet Jon of Getting Beat Like You Stole Something at RustBelt Market (I brought him an iced coffee to beat the heat in the artisans/flea market), and we chatted as if we’re old friends. (Kind of are, considering we’ve been blogger friends for like, 2-3 years now? ;) If you’re reading this, hey, Jon! We need to meet up again soon! Yeay!

What did you do this weekend?

{ Week in Pictures } June 5 – June 12, 2011 // “Whole Lotta History” — Edsel Ford Mansion Tour, Cuban Food, Fashion Styling, Gratuitous Bear Photos & Lots of Drinking

{Slide Show Post}

During the week of June 5 through June 12, 2011, I was a busy, busy girl.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

{ What I did }

  • Toured the historic Detroit landmark, Edsel and Eleanor Ford mansion in Grosse Pointe Shores. The historic manor is perfectly preserved and maintained by a staff of caring, knowledgeable docents.
  • Following our rambling tour of the Ford house and grounds, mama-in-law, our mutual friend C and I went downtown to eat Cuban food at Vicente’s in Downtown Detroit.
  • We all got shitfaced on a pitcher-full of deliciously powerful Sangria, which means we got loud–best way to drink, in my opinion.
  • Celebrated my birthday a month late with tres leche cake.
  • E-cycling e-waste at Best Buy
  • Gave Bear a bath and stuck an inflatable doughnut around his neck for kicks. He did not appreciate it.
  • Got a facial at Tantra Spa in Ferndale, MI. More on this later.
  • Hula Hoop ninja sessions with my besties Gingermandy and SillyGrrl in Marine City
  • Dreaming about Hawaii over breakfast and Korean Dramas
  • Late night date night over more Cuban food at CafĂ© Habana
  • Playing the Fashion Stylist for my cousin Ri who is embarking into a real career!
  • Dinner by the lake with my friend E.
  • Softly filtered rainbows from lazy sunsets.
  • Video editing of my “Cruelty-Free Beauty Review” of Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara (ie. it is NOT cruelty-free.) for my YouTube channel

Busy week, right?

{ Week in Pictures } May 30 ~ June 5, 2011 :: House Guests + Homemade Pizza + Drinks + Movie Nights = A+ Week!

[Slide show post]

I still maintain that my life is pretty dull, just a regular little life, in a regular little suburb in a economically depressed city (pretty typical of an average to large city in these uncertain and extreme economic times), with a regular little family, with an average to moderate amount of happiness and social calendar. I’m not immensely exciting, going on fantastic adventures day in and day out, but neither am I intensely boring, lounging about the house with my hair askew and stains on my sweatpants. I stay home and I go out neither in excess, but not lacking things to do.

If I had to define my life on a daily basis, I’d call it “Stable Contentment” [for the most part]. Sure, I have my Drama Queen moments–that’s what happens when you were encouraged to be as dramatic as possible in childhood–and I have them a fair amount, but overall, my happy, sweet little life is a pretty lucky one. I just realized how incredibly lucky I’ve been as of last night, and I could never express my gratitude to the Universe adequately, so hopefully my acknowledgment of this is enough.

{ Week in Pictures } May 22, 2011 ~ May 29, 2011

I’m pretty boring, but I still think my weeks are pretty awesome.

The week of May 22 was pretty alright, except where I had to venture into Wal-Mart to return something I mistakenly purchased online through Google Checkout. (Wal-Mart is the Land of Misery. Wal-Mart makes me understand why country music is so effective at evoking absolute pain and tears that well up from the bottomless pit of depression: It sucks. I will never shop there willingly, if the situation could be helped.)

{Week’s highlights}

  • Skyping with BFF Lily (Bleed for Fashion).
  • Vegan dinners with N with homemade gluten steaks made by Husby.
  • Hulu evenings. Namely Glee.
  • Beauty Videos.
  • Clashing fashion.
  • Stalker Bear[dog].
  • Vegan Breakfast scrambles on the veranda.

More to come tomorrow!

Don’t forget to enter my $300 GUCCI/NYX COSMETICS/THE BODY SHOP/BLUE LAGOON SKINCARE/ORIGINS/CLINIQUE/DR. HAUSCHKA/CHANEL GIVEAWAY BONANZA! [ends July 1] So far, only, like 20 people have entered, and it’s making me sad!

Week in Pictures ~ May 16 – May 21, 2011

I think this will be a weekly thing with me.

Being that I carry a nice 5MPX camera with me at all times (it’s nice, this iPhone, isn’t it?), I’ve been snapping a lot more photos than normal, even though I have a lovely 10.1MPX camera with a Leica lens (Panasonic Lumix LX5). It’s just easier to tote my iPhone around without the extra bulk of a HD/Semi-manual camera. You already know I’m a huge bag lady, but after almost a year of carrying 1 iPhone (3G 8GB), 1 iPod (80GB), a large notebook AND a half face of makeup for touch ups, it was time to de-bulk….

Having a phone that is also faster than the iPhone I was using for a year… I get a little trigger happy with the Lomo-esque camera apps. I think I now have 7 camera apps on my phone, including photo editing software. Ahhh. Joy.

No dog I have ever known is this “well-documented”. I take pictures of Bear[dog] whenever I can, because he’s always doing weird and/or cute things. I may not have a maternal instinct/inclination in my psyche toward children, but toward my own furry “child”, I could never be accused of negligence or being unloving.

After I gave him a corrective “hair cut” after he had come from the groomer (trimmed his “Snoopy Ears” down to the Bear-like short style).

Picked out a birthday card for my BFF Lily.

Why do 95% of all cards created specifically for females look like a cupcake bakery that threw up on a Crayola Box? I think greeting card designers are playing a joke on us. Thankfully I found 1 that didn’t make me yak, but only after I had scoured the racks for 15 straight minutes. *barf*

When I had work to do….

I doodled instead, about what I looked like…

…and how I felt.

Spent a LOT of time on the phone (at work).

Some of which I was on the phone with my friend CK, to whom I dedicated several Instagram/Tumblr picture posts since we’d spent SOOOO Much time emailing and phoning each other.

Lomo app crazy.

I cooked and ate lots of delicious, nutricious vegetarian or vegan food.

Thursday, my father-in-law took me out for sushi as a belated birthday lunch. (Yet moar food!)

Um… Sushi boat?? WHAT!

Bad weather. SICK of Bipolar weather in Lake Country. 86F/30C and sunny and humid one day, 58F/14.44C the next with thunderstorms & clouds. What happened to Spring? Oh, there it is! Wait, no, it’s summer. Wait no, it’s spring again. WTF. #Detroit.

Hair & Clothes (’cause I went shopping on Friday with my girl friend A, with whom I haven’t hung out in months).

(Yes, still wearing this T. I love its drapiness.)

Saturday woke up, feeling hung over from actually getting rest after a week of insomnia…. drowned myself in 3 mugs of Green Tea just to wake up…

…cleaned the kitchen, while entertained by The Voice [Hello, Mr. Adam Levine... you are so fine].

Joy riding to the lake.

Went to the Lake on Sunday, and saw my close friend E’s house for the first time. So charming I had to take pix on the tour.

I have a thing for Kitchens & Bathrooms–the two rooms in the house I use the most. Most brill vintage stove vent in their main kitchen.

Laid out by the lake for Girl Talk & cocktails in SPORTS BOTTLES with E. *Classiest broads on the Lake.*

Gave myself a facial & tried a new towel tying technique.

Project 808 Research (for our relocation to Hawaii in Jan), and the birthday card my MIL got me two weeks ago… reminds her of me when I was a little girl [oddly, very similar].

Cooking another new dish: Roasted Portobella mushroom steaks marinated in onion garlic balsamic vinegar sauce (also vegan), served with Roasted rosemary lemon potatoes with sea salt, lemon pepper & butter & herb salad. (I made enough potatoes to last us 3 days.)

…Max ate very, very precisely [he always does this] while Mummy cooked.

Finished product:

… I miscalculated the amount of time to prep the potatoes and mushrooms, and ended up taking 2h15m to cook the meal. We ended up eating around midnight.

So that was my week last week!

How was yours? What did you do? See? Or, most importantly, EAT?

I also hit my 1 year blog anniversary today. I’ll have a BIG giveaway coming up soon in appreciation, and I’ll be launching thereafterish’s namesake domain with a brand new website SOON! Yeay!
