Seven Things

Wedding reflection photo, mirror reflection, Asian woman mirror reflection

Said recently to a friend via Twitter: ‘The person I want the most is the better version of me I haven’t met yet.’

Seven random facts and miniature stories

  1. Despite whatever type of person my photos seem to portray me as, I’m incredibly self-conscious, often unsure and unconfident in my own abilities, mental capacity and skills to get me through life.
  2. This uncertainty in myself often leads to bouts of frustration, sadness and long droughts of productivity in which I laze about the house, stay up late to ungodly hours and sleep in past normal post-drinking-binge hours. ie., quite late. Which is immensely ironic, because the yuppie asshole that lives in my frontal lobe still possesses some un-earned, smug superiority complex against others just because I have a higher-than-average IQ. Some good that’s done–it’s worthless if you are too afraid to apply it.
  3. I am currently working part-time for my husband’s web design and development firm while I settle the house and try to get my own work-from-home editorial/copy-writing/blogging job up and running. Mostly, though, I’m a home-maker right now.
  4. This unexpected at-home “profession” has given me a newfound and also very unexpected sense of respect for housewives.
  5. I’m turning 30. My childhood friend A (and on and off emotional boyfriend–ie., we loved each other, but the timing never worked out) and I made a deal back when we were 20 to get married to each other if neither of us were married by the time I turned 30. Incidentally, I met my husband two years after said agreement and we’ve been together for seven years, having gotten married when I was 27. A is happily dating the most stunning fellow nerd and consequently, our monthly catch-up chats have dwindled to a bi-annual affair.
  6. Most of my best friends are people I’ve met within the last 8 years and dubbed BFF within a few short months! Husby N, my soulmate “Giselle” (also known as “J”), Lily (of Bleed For Fashion), Sarah (aka SillyGrrl), and Mandy (aka GingerMandy). The only exceptions would be A, whom I’ve known since 10th grade, and my girl Kina, who I met in high school through someone we no longer consider a friend, but we never really bonded until we started our “Azn Club Kid” phase at age 21. LOL.
Why bond so quickly? There’s just something so soul-piercing about the bond and friendship that you immediately cleave to each other and feel like you’ve known each other for ages. It’s love. When you know, you just know.
  7. I think the world would be an uglier place without the existence of stripes.

If you feel like doing a random factoid thingy, go ahead. Make sure you link to your post in a comment so I can read and enjoy!

It’s raining like crazy here in Hawaii, so I’m going to go and enjoy a rainy-Sunday nap. It’s that kind of day.

Honi, me ke aloha ~ xo, with love,
Mae
