{ Architecture of an Outfit } neon yellow button down, zebra print pencil skirt, Theyskens Theory ankle wedge heel knock offs and someone got a new hair cut
Aloha ‘auinala kakou ~ Good afternoon, guys!
Do you have the animal instinct? Do you buzz like neon? Have you ever had a problem magically solved? I did.

Thanks to fellow Oahu blogger Allie of Heels Eggs + Rice, I found a new love in my new stylist Khoi L, a mad scientist of a hair guy. I was beginning to get really frustrated with my old perm (which was done over my old color and dried out my hair into a nasty, frizzy haystack-like pile of straw), and had grown extraordinarily tired of wearing my hair in a top knot EVERYDAY. So, on Allie’s recommendation, I finally made an appointment with Khoi at his new salon, Salon Blanc in Ala Moana. I knew everything was meant to be when I heard the speakers softly playing downtempo house music (Basement Jaxx, etc). I especially knew it was meant to be when Khoi and I bantered for the first few minutes and discovered a mutual adoration for nerd pursuits like animé, house music, and That’s What She Said jokes.
I don’t know what he did, but my hair is fixed and I feel pretty again.

Style Notes:
Neon and animal print are easy ways to mix up your style. This polyester button-down is a basic piece with an asymmetrical hem (longer in the back) and this zebra print pencil skirt is also a everyday staple. But you take it to the next level from normal to va-va-va-voom when you introduce a brilliant hue and a bold print. Additional details like an exposed zipper, a contrasting snake print skinny belt and a silver arm party glam it up a little. Lastly, I added a bright red lipstick to brighten my face, and I threw on sky-high ankle wedge pumps to make me look much, much taller and my legs much, much longer. I’m pretty happy with the result. I stood out.
Plus my new hair rocks. More deet photos on the hair later.

If you live in Honolulu or in Oahu and you’re in the market for a new stylist AND new hair, go to Khoi at Salon Blanc. Tell him Mae sent you.

Gorgeous hair, Mae!!! I LOVE it! I need a chop soon and have been researching organic salons in Edinburgh – didn’t know there was such a thing until I went to magic google. Also love the va-va-vooom of the outfit and the faux theory heels- gorgeous! My outfits more wa-wa-warm here in Edinburgh and I miss the days of not wearing at least two layers over my entire body (indoors and out!).
p.s. Thank you for all your wonderful encouragement about trying to eat greener and healthier for me and the planet! You comment made my day!!!
xoxox,
