If you weren’t aware, Husby (N), Max the Bear and I are relocating to Hawaii. Two weeks from now, we leave behind the ever cooling Northern homebase of Detroit, road tripping to my erstwhile home of San Diego for the US Thanksgiving holiday, then traversing across the great, big, salty waves of the Pacific Ocean to settle in our new home of Kaneohe, Hawaii. (This is one of the eastern suburb cities near the state capital Honolulu on the lush island of Oahu.)
So, while the mercury drops even faster than the trees lose their leaves and become skeletal sentinels under roiling stainless steel grey skies, I’ll be daydreaming of our new home and the white sandy beaches that await us.
I’ll leave you some photos of our neighborhood and the beauty that lies literally in our cottage’s backyard.
This is the view of our new city of Kaneohe, from the Ko’olau (ko-oh-l-owlike the ‘ow’ in ‘pow’) mountain lookout point.
Recognize this temple? If you’re a J.J. Abrams or LOST fan, you should. They featured this as a Korean palace several times in the show, but it’s really a Japanese memorial temple in Ahuimanu, commemorating the immigration of Japanese to the Islands. It’s a 12 minute drive from our cottage.
A gorgeous look of Kaneohe Bay and the Kaneohe Peninsula.
The fish pond and gardens and mountains literally in our backyard. We can walk to this pond in a matter of minutes from our new backyard.
And the best for last:
Kahana Bay State Beach Park. The gorgeous white sands and crystalline, azure waters of this beach are just a short jaunt up the Kamehameha Highway (Ka-meya-meya) from our house.
Funemployment, indeed. I told you I was going to enjoy this. How could I not?
I hope these images send you lots of warmth within. What are you daydreaming about on this wonderful Sunday?
