Halloween, Detroit Style (Theatre Bizarre)

How does Detroit celebrate Halloween (you know, other than burning abandoned houses, as the stereotype says)?

We do bizarre. Theatre Bizarre, that is. Macabre, avant garde, strange, delightful, ugly, scary and straight up super weird. That’s how we do it here. Anything else is just too tame.

Here’s a little vlog film my husband N put together of the event: Detroit-style Halloween.

And if you haven’t celebrated yet, Happy Halloween! Be safe!

    • Thanks, Allie! I loved yours, too! You’re always so creative with your costumes each year. I remember your Lil Mama costume a few years back. Man, that was bananas!

  2. omg Mae, I LOVE your costume! Seriously, I love EVERYTHING about it!The hairband’s so cute and versatile! Your eye make-up’s amazing!!!!!!!!11one
    Awww you look so good

Dude, I need that kind of Halloween event here. The city I’m in only has student club nights for Halloween so I didn’t do anything this year. One year I went as a slutty devil and the next, I was a slutty French Maid. Ah…those were the days…ok, I wasn’t even that slutty, tbh.

    • Thanks, babe!!!

I love the lace headband. I almost wish I could wear it every day… :)

Make your own Halloween. Dress up and go to dinner in the city! Just go all balls out and go crazy, and don’t mind the stares!

  3. Ahmazing, Mae!!! You guys look awesome and your costume is even more amazing than when you gave a sneak peak a few posts ago!
I’m totally living vicariously through your gorgeous pics because we didn’t get our Halloween on here in Edinburgh. The UK is just starting to get into Halloween, so most of the costumes are zombies and slutty zombies — I’m not sure if they understand the true costume possibilities!

    • They totally need to get on the ball. Why is the US so gung-ho on All Hallow’s Eve? It’s the best holiday! It’s a happy, creepy, fun one… no politics or anything dramatic when it comes to friends, relationships or family!

You should just dress up, anyway. I know how creative you are with your DIYs and all that!

  4. LOL i love how the white swan was a male. ya there were WAY too many black swans, it was nearly creepy seeing them all on the streets. You look soooo good though – I love the way you did your eyes! Now that is an original costume. beautiful.

    XOXO

    • Thanks, babe! It wasn’t ENTIRELY original, as there were lots of Alice in Wonderland outfits there, but I believe I was only one of two White Rabbits the entire night, and I was the only Lady Gaga inspired fairytale character…. so, I’m happy that was the case.

As far as Black Swans… I saw maybe about 40 or 50 that night, but none of them looked quite as chic or well-done as you were with your makeup! So bravo!

I might actually go as Black Swan next year, just because the black and white tutus I saw on display at American Apparel were too sexy to forget. Either that, or I’d go as a zombied ballerina who starved to death… I think that’s better than black swan.

Hit me up, yo.
