Yet another hallmark of being an emo/punk show feen and an “AZN” Asian Club Kid as far as style goes, was that I used to sport some crazy-ass hair.
Big.
Ass.
Joan Jett.
Punk Mullet.
Hurr.
Depending on the situation, though, I could dial it down a bit. For church or work. (I know, I used to be such a good, church-going little sweetheart, but with insane hair, right?)
The best thing about the hair, and the stand out difference between Old Mae and Current Mae, was that when I wanted to really distinguish myself from the un-unique masses filling different public forums–college campuses, shopping malls, restaurants, of course, the clubs me and my dancing buddies frequented 2 nights a week–I would style the hurr even wilder and more outrageously.

Never would have thought the girly-girl had it in her, huh?

OMG how are we so alike!? I used to have “scene” hair too.. massively teased and faux-hawk like. It was the coolest thing ever… or so I thought.
Actually, I don’t regret it. We only get to be young ones.
And I was (and still am) a good church-going kid haha. I definitely toned my hair down for church.
Omg, LOVE it! hahaha. You’re gorgeous either way though, girl.
Your Joan Jett’s hair is outta this world, Mae!
SO FRIGGIN HOT!
And I’m not even joking or mocking or whatever.
You pulled it off so well
the sonic hair is so amazing!
Thanks for the the tip! I’l definitely give it a try… and it totoally makes sense.. don’t they use dish soap on animals that get affected by oil spills?? Or am I wrong?
If the dress gets saved, I’ll def wear it again and show of the back fo sho.
I will also need to go pick up a tidepen tomorrow. I notice a lot of bloggers swear by them.
xx Love & Aloha
Love the hair! I’ve always loved the Joan Jett cut, never could quite pull it off myself. You rocked it, though!
it might be because of your post, but im itching to change up my hair. but maybe it’s cause im seriously over my majorly over-grown roots
KeepItFvncy,
M.E.
Hahaha, MAE!!!! Your hair was ridiculous and awesome and you are such a good sport for showing all of us! I especially <3 the photo of you dancing all alone on the dance floor. How much more awesome could you possibly get?!
Happy Monday girl!
Jen
Mad Sonic hair, woman! Haha
Thanks for your input on my blog
I’m very proud of our Uni and Students’ Union (it’s the best in the country!). Our Uni has got to be one of the most diversed Universities in the UK and I’m so happy that the Union fights for the rights of all students regardless of race and colour. For eg, now the International Students’ Committee (which I’m a member of) is campaigning against the recent changes to laws by the government that affect international students. I love it that so many other societies (not just Japan Society) are run by truly passionate students who come here not just for an education, but with the aims for bettering their lives and others. I agree that education is SO important, not just in the textbook sense, but the learning of different cultures. It’s not just in the US, even in the UK, people can be pretty ignorant. I wished people would just take some time to learn about a different culture, then perhaps stereotyping and discrimination wouldn’t be so apparent.
Love the hair!!! Thanks so much, I already received the code!!!
Oh heck yes!!! YOUR HAIR WAS INCREDIBLE back in the day!!! You totally rocked it out Mae. Would you ever considering sporting that ever again? When you move to Hawaii, let’s go dancing… you can show me how. I like to think I know how to shake my thang, but not before a one or two, or five drinks first.
Other’s would say I’m a mess on the dance floor, but hey at least I’m on it, not standing there being a wall flower.
And poo! I didn’t win… hmph… Just kidding… congrats to the winner.
xx Love & Aloha
Right on
. I actually like your sonic look, very unique. At least to me its unique.
You can pull off so many styles! I love the “nerdy” look with the bangs and glasses. Very cute!
look at that hair! wow…that’s amazing. i wish i had such an interesting hair history.
omg your hair was awesome (still is!) i had some sort of insane mullet too for a while haha HOTTT
Oh man, do you have pix?!
out of curiosity, why are you wearing a mask in the first picture? and only you of all my friends could pull off the sonic mohawk
I was on the verge of getting sick, and I didn’t want to get sicker, so when I got on the plane I put the mask on. Was on my way to visit Detroit for the first time, right when N and I started dating.
