{ Shoe Porn } Tom’s Gets Some Serious Height

Tom’s Shoes, an American company based out of Santa Monica, famous for its simple yet incredibly comfortable canvas flat shoes, is expanding its quintessential summer shoe designs to include womens wedge espadrilles.

The original Tom’s Shoes are modeled after the Alpargata shoes worn by Argentinian farmers for centuries. Made of comfortable cotton canvas, the original flat slip-on shoe style has eventually been expanded to include boot styles, Cordones and Botas. Now, the line has grown to include a more fashion-forward look for women who want to sport the ethical brand but still achieve height and leg length.

News of the coming wedge heels leaked last autumn but with no details only a newsletter for which people could sign up which would then alert shoppers to when the line is actually being launched.

The line launched last week and is available in six models through Tom’s Shoes website. Named Calypso, the wedge features the traditional cotton canvas fabric with the Tom’s logo at the heel. The sole is made out of woven straw-like espadrille material. There are two styles, Solids (black, mint green and yellow) and seer-sucker in Navy, Orange and Red strip.

The shoes retail for $69.00USD.

Since the company formed its movement in 2006, over 600,000 pairs of shoes have been given to children in developing nations as well as in the United States.
